STUDIES IN ENGLISH
“By the Church, in the Church, for the Church.”
The English Stream of the Luther Academy offers online studies in English in cooperation with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and other Church partners. Our identity stems from being entrusted with the preparation of a new generation of confessional Lutheran pastors and Church workers to fulfill the mission of the Church. We, thus, provide a Church-based formational theological foundation for ministry in the Church that is based on the Holy Scriptures in the Lutheran tradition.

23 COURSES & 20 STUDENTS
Studies are a mix of synchronous and asynchronous, non-residential, and residential learning. Most of the work, such as reading texts, and viewing lesson recordings assigned for each seminar, is done at the students’ own time and pace in preparation for weekly seminars online. At the hour-long seminars, knowledgeable lecturers guide the students in discussion as they deepen their understanding and get to interact with fellow students on the application of the topics in their local context.
Learn more about each area of study:
A key component of the academic approach at the Luther Academy English Stream is frequent, detailed, and formational feedback. Students have short weekly tests to check their comprehension of core concepts before each Seminar. Major assignments, such as essays, exegetical tasks, and sermons each have an evaluation rubric showing desired outcomes of separate assignment components – the students are also evaluated within the framework of these components with written comments on each as a basis for future improvement.
Additionally, there are weekly Chapel services online that serve as a focal point for the dispersed community of the Luther Academy English Stream. We gather together to hear God’s Word preached by seasoned pastors and preachers, primarily Academic Faculty members, and to lift one another and the wider needs of the community and the World around us in prayer. Students also have access to the English Stream Chaplain for the care and cure of their souls, as well as to ask for intercessions personally and/or as part of the Chapel services.
